Sundance Children's Festival Tue, Jun 17th, 08
Saturday the kids went with Patrick and me to the Sundance Children's Festival. It was a gorgeous day. They had a petting zoo, some live entertainment, a clown, horseback rides, rock climbing, cookie decorating, the ski lift, and some really great booths. The kids had a fantastic time playing, eating and exploring. It was lovely to spend the day surrounded by beautiful views and happy children.
Pismo and Carpenteria Tue, Jun 10th, 08
School ended and we took off to California that very same day. Stopping in Primm for the night and then on to Pismo Beach in the morning. On the way we stopped at a cute little farmer's market where the kids made some good friends with the goats and chickens at the petting zoo. These friends were brought up continuously throughout the trip.
We explored the coast a little before my friend Rob's wedding and then went to his beautiful ceremony in Pismo Beach on the cliffs overlooking the ocean. Before the wedding Joey was most upset about having his beach time spoiled by the wedding but as soon as the reception started he was singing a different tune. Joey made friends with a boy named Conner; Patrick spent the evening chasing them around. Angel met Miss Haley. I danced with five little toddler girls most of the night. Angel has been talking about her "sister Haley" ever since. Since dancing with Haley she has been singing "We are family, I got all my sisters and me" repeatedly.
The next morning we started our short drive to Carpenteria Beach. When we got there the sun was shining but it was only about sixty five degrees. The kids didn't care. Angel found her place rolling in the sand while Joey explored the waves. Brrrr! We did see dolphins that evening and had our first campfire and grilling experience.
The next two days were filled with beach and camping fun. Then we drove Patrick to the airport and stayed the last two nights alone, just the kids and I.
I have to admit, I was nervous the first night... sadly, my anxiety did not come from fear of animals or nature but from humans. We made it uneventfully through the first night and decided to stay another. Finally on the beach that day I really relaxed and enjoyed myself while watching the kids interact. It was hard to deviate from having a busy schedule but once I realized that I had all the time in the world, the vacation really began. Joey and Angel were very occupied making castles and sand creatures. Then the sand restaurant opened which facilitated hours of enjoyment. They both made themselves sand birthday cakes and we sang happy birthday to Joey who turned 11 and Angel who turned 100...they used sticks for candles and yes Angel had 100!
Then a guy with a shovel helped us get sand crabs, one was HUGE, probably 4 inches long! It was a lot of fun to catch the little ones with a sand sifter. By the second day at the beach Joey was the sand baby and Angel was constantly dragging us to the water.
Joey also learned to fly a kite; really well, I might add. It was fun watching him run up and down the beach flying his kite with a smile of pure satisfaction on his face.
At the campsite I almost forgot to mention, both Angel and Joey were avid tree-climbers.
That night, the final night, a loud and somewhat obnoxious group arrived. They kept me awake until after midnight with their foul language and drunken stupor, but no matter, as I was enthralled in book two of FableHaven (Thank you Charisse). The next day on our drive home we only made it back to Primm, exhaustion overtook us.
Finally, Saturday night we arrived back in Eagle Mountain after a wonderful vacation. Sorry there are not many pictures, I was too busy playing this time to snap them.
Humanity? Wed, Apr 2nd, 08
10:30 at night, I was driving home from a Jazz game with Joey and Angel. Jack was playing, Joey was knocked out and Angel had been so quiet that when she piped up I was surprised she was even awake. Out of nowhere she says: "Mom, I'm not human yet."
I said: "What?"
Angel repeated, "I'm not human yet, I am only a kid."
I reassured her that she was indeed human, but not an adult. She quietly pondered that the rest of the way home, lol.
Mommy's Birthday Sat, Mar 29th, 08
We had a really nice day! The kids fell asleep with me last night in my bed... At around 6am Patrick came up and got Angel and Joey and brought them downstairs. They came back up with breakfast (Soyrizo, Eggs, Peppers, toast with avocado, and grapefruit juice) flowers, a princess and happy face balloon and a cute Mickey card. After a while we all went downstairs and there on the table was another beautiful bouquet of flowers... tulips and lilies. As I went to get ready in my closet where I had a makeshift vanity I found a new vanity and chair! If you saw how I was getting ready before you would know this is a BIG IMPROVEMENT! We then went to our school's performance of the musical "Once on this Island". The kids loved it! I loved it! The talent the kids had and the performance was just as good if not better then any high-school performance I have seen! It was a lot of fun. After the musical we drove to Salt Lake City and had dinner at my favorite vegetarian restaurant "Sage's Cafe". It is so nice to be able to choose anything off the menu! It is so delicious as well, even my carnivorous family and friends who have went with me there agree. We finished with yummy dessert and headed home. We watched Cinderella but the DVD player malfunctioned toward the end and I ended up reading the subtitles to fill in the dialogue. I did okay though, Angel laughed quite a bit. Then we fell asleep to Star Wars, Joey's new favorite movie series! It was a wonderful birthday, and thanks to everyone who tried to call and didn't get through... I accidentally didn't bring my phone with me anywhere, so I was "cut off".
Basketball Fundamentals Thu, Mar 27th, 08
As if the field trip didn't make this day busy enough, Joey had his first class at Open Court in Lehi... he is taking a basketball fundamentals class for K-2. We arrived very early so Angel and I snuck in and watched a dance class for 3 to 4 year olds. The teacher was adorable and so sweet to the girls. Angel loved it and will be starting next Thursday! Life is starting to get very busy but enjoyable as well. It was fun to watch Joey try to dribble up and down the court. He has a way to go with his coordination but I love that he is so brave and willing to try new things. He fell a few times, scraped his knee a little but never cried, just stood up and tried again!
Joey's Field Trip Thu, Mar 27th, 08
I played hookie as a teacher and spend the day as a mom today. Joey's kindergarten class went to the Discovery Gateway Museum for their field trip. Though Joey has been there before, this month in fact, I think this was a unique experience for him. It was fun for me to see how Joey interacts with his classmates. I wasn't sure if he would really like me being there but amazingly enough in kindergarten it is still cool to have mom around.
Feces and Fire Wed, Mar 26th, 08
We have two beautiful cats with very even temperaments. They spend most of their days lying around with the occasional wrestling match or cry for attention. Yesterday my feelings for Cali and Ella were not so positive.... My couch smelled of the most putrid urine and my nose kept telling me that I was missing something. My little Angel went into the bathroom to tinkle and there it was, a load of runny "ish" on the carpet and the tile. I was upset, to put it mildly. I am already a germ-a-phob and there was my baby girl only inches from squishing her bare little foot in the foul wastes of a cat. I got her out of there and immediately picked up both cats to put them in the laundry room, where their litter boxes reside. As I walked down the stairs my anger diminished nearly as quickly as it had sparked.... there was a closed laundry door. As you can imagine, checking that the kitty bathroom is available is now at the top the morning checklist, right next to making sure the coffee pot is off. Feces and Fire are important things to avoid.
Easter Sun, Mar 23rd, 08
The Easter Bunny was generous this year. Easter started Saturday for us with the Eagle Mountain Annual Easter Egg Hunt (though it is more of a scramble testing the selfish agility that children have when trying to greedily gather as many eggs as they can). Daddy, Shanda and Stryder joined Patrick, Joey, Angel and I to attend this joyous event, lol. Angel, being in a category with 1 and 2 year olds managed to fill her basket until it was overflowing with eggs. Joey and Stryder were stressed as their fortune was far more bleak... gathering only 1 egg between the two of them. Angel put aside her greed and shared a few eggs with them to ease their pain. We then went home and colored eggs which were eaten almost immediately after being colored. After Daddy left the kids and I got Jazzed up for the game. We got to watch the Jazz kick some Seattle Booty and we all got a free full size basketball, I know we are spoiled!
The next day we woke to find the Easter Bunny had left the kids some fun Jazz Jerseys, clappers, princesses, notebooks and pens. He also hid some eggs around the house! After enjoying a relaxing morning we joined the Newmans, Deckers, Packs, Nivens, Bergman’s and Jorgs for the family egg hunt. I can't describe how much Joey and Angel, especially Joey, LOVE to see their cousins. They had so much fun and the kids now surely have enough candy to last well into the summer. Grandma Charisse and Grandpa Bruce gave the kids some really fun Easter presents including their new favorite shirts! (Buzz Lightyear and Giselle, if you don't know you Giselle is you need to get with the times!)
All and all it was a wonderful weekend! Of course we called and wished Gramma in New York a very HAPPY BIRTHDAY! We all wish we lived closer.
Get Up, Get Up, Get Up and out of Bed! Tue, Mar 18th, 08
This has been a real struggle for the kids and me lately. We have been so busy! Sunday we went to Disney on Ice, Princess Adventures and had a wonderful time. After lunch the kids went with their Dad to their Great Gramma's 80th Birthday Party and got home late. Angel just couldn’t get up yesterday morning. Then of course there is no rest for us... Jazz game last night after St. Patrick's Day festivities but that was not until after Joey's first piano lesson!
He is really excited to be learning Piano. We picked up a really nice keyboard that I was expecting to pay 100 for 15 bucks! It is now 7:00 in the morning and again the kids won't wake up. Is the problem "Springing Ahead" or just late nights...
Horton Hears a What?? Sat, Mar 15th, 08
We went with Gavin, Bailey and Tara to see Horton Hears a Who today. Before the movie we had lunch at the pizza place and Angel started bouncing into me, over and over. I didn't realize what she was saying but Bailey did.... She asked if Angel was trying to do the Bee Movie; sure enough she was. She was running into me like I was a window saying "This time, this time, this time" like Barry does when he gets stuck in the lady's apartment. We had a fun time. Joey was so glad to see Gavin; he talks about him a lot.
Gramma's surprise party Mon, Mar 3rd, 08
Gramma was downstairs so the kids and I quickly set up our surprise birthday party for her...only 21 days early! We tried to light all the candles but we kept burning ourselves so she only got about half lit. Then I nagged her to find her camera so she would come upstairs and SURPRISE! The kids gave her presents; I think to keep her occupied while they devoured the icing off her cake. You may ask yourself what her favorite gift was... it was the fuzzy-head chicks that Joey gave her, for sure!
Gramma's in town Fri, Feb 29th, 08
My mom is out to visit for a week and we are being spoiled! We went to the Discovery Gateway Children’s Museum on Wednesday! We saw the traveling Sesame Street "Your Body" display. The kids played hard the whole day. It was a lot of fun. There was an entire room of various building materials... blocks, magnets, pipes, clear legos on lights, giant legos and an earthquake maker to knock down your towers. There is an area that shoots, spins and blows balls all over the place. They have a farm area, rock climbing, a store, a house, a construction site, a helicopter, cars to drive and a water table area. No boring moments here. We almost went to the Jazz game where they beat Detroit, but it wasn't until we left the house that I realized that I had donated the tickets to my school. But by the time we got done with the museum and eating we would have slept through the game because we were all exhausted!
Mulan's Princess Ball Mon, Feb 11th, 08
There was singing, a parade, mask-making, fan making, paper crickets, chop-stick games, stick fighting and martial arts demonstrations at the Mulan Princess Ball! The kids and I rushed home from school and started getting ready. The library does this every year with a new theme.... it was really fun. After, we ran to Walmart and bumped into Aunt Jenisse. Angel wanted to go with her. Finally we got home at 10:00 and Joey biffed it on the sidewalk. After the extensive crying and comforting he declared that he hated his fancy shoes and never wanted to wear them again. The night ended with books and bed. Joey told me he promised his teacher that since she gave him an ice cream eraser today that he would read a lot tonight (too bad he didn't promise adequate sleep instead, lol).
Joey and Angel Update Tue, Jan 22nd, 08
It's been a while since I have written anything. January has been busy. Christmas was fun. The kids got spoiled of course! They loved seeing their cousins! Wish we could see you all more.
Joey has been working hard on reading. He really likes school. At Debi's the kids have been making a lot of fun projects. A lady named Camille comes over and the kids do some amazing things. They came home with full size paper dolls of themselves the other day.
At home we have been making cookies and icing them... someday I will upload the pictures. We played in the new snow yesterday. We tried to make a fort but without a shovel it is like throwing powder. Joey, Angel and I started throwing snow at each other, then we started kicking... the snow comes off your foot sometimes quicker and higher then you want...Angel was quite upset when I kicked it in her face on accident. It ended with hot chocolate and snow slushies (snow with juice on it). Good times.
Angel started preschool. We were very lucky because a good friend of mine is able to drive her and pick her up otherwise she couldn't go. She got to be the special helper the other day and has been learning some really fun songs. Angel loves it so much. I feel guilty that Joey never got the chance. She gets really excited to go. Last night she picked a special toy to show-and-tell and was so excited about school. Later in the night I got the call that my friend couldn't take her because she had a sick child. Angel was so sad. I couldn't find anyone to take her, and I felt really bad. I was even trying to work it out with my boss to have someone watch my class. I hate seeing my babies disappointed... Patrick who worked all night (he works from 10 to 10) sacrificed his sleep today and took her and picked her up (which is a big deal because he has a lot going on over the next couple of days). He said he thought she deserved to go. I was really touched by his kindness. It sure made Angel's day!
Everyone is healthy finally and happy. Baseball registration is in a few weeks and Angel gets to play this year too! She told me baseball is her favorite sport, but I am not sure if she knows really what it is. We are all going to a Princess Ball in February. Joey is really excited to wear fancy clothes. Joey and Angel are becoming real screamers at the Jazz games and the Jazz Reading contest is about to begin at school. Parent-teacher conferences are coming up soon and Joey will have his first conference with his teacher and parents. Big Day!
Hope you are all having a wonderful new year! More to come.
Thanksgiving in Moab Sun, Nov 25th, 07
The kids spent Thanksgiving in Moab with Patrick and me. We hiked a bit in Arches National Park, went to the Hole in The Rock house and Dead Horse Point. Joey and Angel were making up knock knock jokes on one of our car rides and they got really silly. Joey really got me laughing when he tried to do an interrupting horse joke and he said "knock, knock". I said "Who's there?" Joey replied, "Wait, what does a horse say again?"....
We also went to the movies (because one of the days was really cold and snowy) and saw Enchanted. The kids liked it a lot. When the movie was over and it ended happily Angel turned around and gave me this huge, long, excited kiss... it was really funny. We had a lot of fun.
I've Got Claus Sun, Nov 25th, 07
Angel stuck her face in the snow yesterday and said "I've got claus!". It took us a few minutes to get it... she had a beard like Santa, lol.
The Rules of Being a Grown Up Fri, Nov 9th, 07
So little Angel, on the potty, calls out to me "Mommy, I wiped a little and now you wipe a little" So as I come in to do the inspection wipe she says "I'm a grown up" I told her "not quite" her reply was "But I like oranges and I put on my own clothes" Hehe
Cornbelly's Sun, Oct 28th, 07
We went to Cornbelly's at Thanksgiving Point yesterday. We were there all day because it was so fun. Joey and Angel really loved the Jumping Pillows, actually Patrick and I had a good time on them too. I got a little sick after the first time. We picked our pumpkins at the end of the day and plan to carve them tonight.
Trip to California! MANY PICTURES! Sun, Jul 8th, 07
Clint and Shanda drove to California in the Civic for a friend of Clint's wedding in Thousand Oaks. We found out that air condition in 120 degree weather (from St George to Barstow) stops working when you have no oil in your car. Go figure. We didn't figure out the problem until St. George on the way back!
When we were down there we saw the movie Transformers with Bruce, and went to Magic Mountain on the way home. We have hundreds of photos to share! We got video of the roller coasters, pics of the wedding, and so much more! There is a sweet new ride called Tatsu at Magic Mountain. Make sure you put all your belongings in the specified bins before getting on the ride, or you will lose your camera and lose all the photos of your entire trip! We were left with only 2 photos when I was testing my other camera we didn't bring on the ride :( Sad day
Joey and Angel in New York Wed, Jun 27th, 07
I got this picture from Gramma in New York. Papa wrote this to me in an email:
When I got home from work I took the two of them outside and we squirted each other with the hose. The water was very cold and Angel didn't like it. So I got out the sprinkler and tried to get her to run through it with me and Joey. She would have none of it so I got her a little bucket out of the shed and ask her to pick up leaves and rocks, she liked that. Then she sat down in a yard chair and watched me and Joey. Finally Joey asked me to connect the sprayer to the hose again but Angel did not the idea of that so I had Joey promise not to spray her. She thought about that for awhile and then pointed at me and said "don't you spray me either papa" can't fool her. We had fun.
Joey and Angel Fri, Jun 22nd, 07
For the next month and a half you won't hear about the babes as they are out of town. When I get back I will try to back date and let you know how the summer went. Hope you all have a great summer!
In NY Sun, Jun 17th, 07
We are here in NY. Angel and Joey are going to spend the summer with Gramma and Papa while Mommy is away. Of course getting here was a traveling fiasco... We left the house around 6am and got to the airport. After stopping in Chicago for more then three hours we were off to Baltimore where we were supposed to stop and pick up passengers and head on to NY. Of course Angel had just fallen asleep after a little grumpy period when we got the news that we had to change planes. We changed planes and got into NY about an hour late. THEN, OF COURSE, no luggage. With leaving the kids I was extra upset so I started getting emotional. They had moved 20+ people from the one plane to the other and had forgotten everyone’s luggage, ugh. The luggage is supposed to be here tonight, first by six, now it looks like nine, but who knows. Then the 2 and 1/2 hour drive to Gramma's consisted of shopping for necessities at Walmart, dinner at Friendly's, and 20 minutes from home princess Peejalacka giving us the quadruple vomit. Good times! Bath at one in the morning, finally sleep, oops pee seeped through the night time pull up, wash the sheets, clean the car seat.... I feel like I am in an episode of Seinfeld.
It's all good now though!
Joey and Baseball Sun, May 13th, 07
This Saturday was Joey's first baseball game. They only had 1 practice before, so Joey didn't really know the rules before hand. In practice, they did hitting (T-Ball), and Catching/Running and getting the ball.
So when it was Joey's turn in the game to hit the ball, he hit it, ran and picked it up, then ran to his base. He also did this when someone else hit the ball and he was supposed to run to 2nd base. The hitter hit the ball, Joey ran from first to grab the ball, then went to second. Everyone watching was laughing and thought it was the funniest thing. It was cute.
Joseph Davidisms Sat, May 5th, 07
At Miss Debi's house Joey has been saying some funny stuff. While watching a preview to a Disney movie with Fairies, Joey asked "Are fairies real?" Debi told him no... so Joey replied "Well, then how are all our dreams going to come true?"
Then a preview to "Angels in the Outfield" came on and Joey asked "Are Angels real?" Debi said "yes"
Joey replied "Miss Debi, are you an Angel?"
Finally, Joey said the morning prayer "Dear Heavenly Father, please bless the candy. Bless that it has some vitamins! In the name of Jesus Christ, Amen"
Peej-a-potamus Tue, May 1st, 07
Today was Angel's official Birthday so we did a small thing with mom and dad. She came home to balloons and presents from us. Joey was really excited too. Daddy got her an Ark and Shanda's boy Strider exclaimed as she opened it: "IT'S JESUS!" It was really funny.
Happy Birthday to Angel Mon, Apr 30th, 07
Tomorrow is Angel's Birthday and it's been hard for brother bear. She got to pick what her special dinner is going to be...pancakes,lol. She picked pink cupcakes and pink frosting. It's been hard for Joey because he wants it to be his birthday. He keeps giving me the requests for his birthday. We can't wait to see everyone on Saturday at 2:00! Hope you can all make it!
Full Moon Fri, Mar 23rd, 07
The kids and I were on our way downstairs to have breakfast. Joey and Angel beat me by a minute. As I walked in, I heard Joey using a kind of rude tone of voice with Angel. I continued into the kitchen to find Joey with his pants down sticking his naked butt out at Angel. I had to bite my tongue and discipline him but I couldn't help but smirk when I turned away. His skinny little but hanging out was a funny sight. He said he learned it from FLUSHED AWAY.
Flushing the Toilet Tue, Mar 13th, 07
We actually ventured outside, I felt guilty not letting the kids enjoy the beautiful weather. We went to the park by our house and there is a curly slide there. As Peej was venturing down the curly slide she started yelling out "I'm Flusin' the Toilet" and I said "what?" Angel looked at me and said, "Mommy, that's called Flusihin the toilet"... who taught her that?
One more cute Angel Peejalism is that she usually calls the kitchen the "chicken" which makes for some funny conversation like "Mommy, my socks are in the chicken."
The Tea Party Sun, Mar 11th, 07
All weekend the kids have been anticipating having a tea party. My Aunt sent Angel a beautiful ceramic tea set when she was just born. They discovered it on her shelf on Friday night and have been really excited to use it. Our tea party began when we got home from the zoo (beautiful day). We walked two feet to the gas station to get our cookies and apple juice. Then we practiced using our best manners..."please, thank you, may I and your welcome". It was really cute but my favorite part was Joey who decided he liked the center of the oreo the best so he would eat the cream and give the two pieces to Angel and say "Look Angel, a sandwich!", tricking her into eating his plain cookies. We were very proper; Miss Angel and Joseph thoroughly enjoyed the party.
Joey Did It! Fri, Mar 2nd, 07
In his efforts to be known as "Spiderman" AKA "Peter Parker" Joey has finally succeeded. He has been trying to convince the kids at daycare and finally they are no longer tattle-telling on Joey, instead they are rating out "Peter Parker". The only thing I can't understand is that why would a superhero like Peter be pushing the other kids?
Chillin' At Home Sun, Feb 25th, 07
It has been so nice to be home with the kids this weekend; it seems like forever since we just "hung out". We did go to the Jazz game last night and they schooled the Celtics. Yesterday I let Joey get three dollars out of his piggy bank to buy a treat at the game and we were running late so there was change all over the floor. This morning Angel saw the mess and said "Oh my gosh, look at this mess. I can't believe it. Joey, what did you do? I am so mad right now." It was so funny cause she barely had any emotion in it.
Later on in the day, Joey wanted to play a video game, but he needed my help. He always calls himself spider man or Peter Parker so I pretended I was asleep and told him I was sleeping beauty and I could only be awakened by a kiss from Prince Peter Parker. It was so funny cause he didn't want to kiss me. He said "Gross" and it took him like 5 minutes to do it.
CAR JAMS Sat, Feb 24th, 07
Lately the kids have really enjoyed rockin' out in the car to "Jock Jams". They started loving the "Move it" song, then the "Everybody Dance now", but right now Joey is really into "Cotton-Eyed Joe" and Angel is really into "We Will Rock You" (except we say "we will Jazz you"). It's hysterical to watch the kids sing these songs, especially cause the words are so fast. It makes our car rides more enjoyable and it makes the Jazz games so much more fun cause they recognize the music.
The Baby Peej Sat, Feb 24th, 07
Angel went pee pee in the potty this morning... she initiated it by telling me she needed to go. I said to her” Angel, you are such a big girl to go pee pee in the potty" then she said to me "I know Mommy, you're so proud of me."
Angel's Funny Tue, Jan 30th, 07
I told Angel... "Your Pretty" and she said. "Yes, I know". Then I said, no you’re supposed to say Thank you. Then I said.. "Your Pretty".. and she just stared at me... so I said "thank you" to get her to say it, and she said "Your welcome", hehe.
SPIDERMAN Thu, Jan 18th, 07
In case anyone didn't notice, Joey is quite obsessed with Spiderman right now. In fact he calls himself Peter Parker and refuses to let us call him Joey. He was singing me the Spiderman song in the car today and this is how it went: "Spiderman, Spiderman, does whatever a spider can; spin a web, throw a guy...” then I started laughing so he stopped and he couldn't remember the rest of the words after that. I asked him about the "Throw a guy" part and he said, "Yeah you know, he throws bad guys".
Joey would also like to order a baby brother, that was fun. He told me he would like to name a baby brother "Moey" pronouced like Joey, lol.
Something Joey said Sat, Jan 13th, 07
I was in the car driving home with the kids and Joey was complaining how long the drive was taking. I was going to tell Joey how long the drive was going to be when I move, so I said, "Joey, you know how I'm moving to Salt Lake City..." And he replies "No, how?” Then I tried it again, and I said, "Joey, you know how you have a poster hanging on your wall.." And he replied "no, how?"
It was funny.
The Advanced Stages of Humor Wed, Dec 13th, 06
So Joey came upstairs from my room. He was downstairs in my bedroom with Angel watching Dora. He came upstairs and said "Mommy, Angel is throwing up everywhere!" There has been a nasty flu going around so I started freaking out, I was about to get up and run downstairs when Joey told me "I'm just kidding mommy, I just was kids you." and he was. Can you imagine my little four year old thinking of a joke like that to play on his Mommy. He knew exactly what would get my attention... lol
Nativity Ride Sun, Dec 10th, 06
We got to go on a Nativity Hay ride in Alpine last night with Daddy and his family. Joey was so excited to see Bennett! We couldn't find the Nativity Giraffe but there was a camel, sheep, cow, donkey and even a baby representing Jesus.
Surgery Wed, Dec 6th, 06
Many of you have been wondering about Joey's surgery.... It went really well. Joey has been having problems with frequent ear infections, sinus infections, asthma, and sleeping problems. His doctor and a specialist upon examination decided that his adenoids were directly contributing to these problems. Joey's surgery lasted about 30 minutes and we were at the hospital about 3 hours yesterday. His recovery has been great so far. He is expected to have a stuffy nose/swelling for about 2-4 weeks. He has not had any pain other then a sore throat that was mostly from the breathing tube they had to put in during the operation. On the way home from the hospital he told me he was very hungry so I picked him up a subway kids pack. He ate everything including a bag of chips. After he told me that his throat didn't hurt anymore. Today he is acting as his normal self but with a stuffy nose. He seems happy and pain-free.
Angel's Knock Knock Jokes Fri, Dec 1st, 06
The kids think knock knock jokes are so funny, and Erica taught them a few, like the one where you repeat Banana a hundred time, then say Orange you glad I didn’t say banana, etc... She also talk them the Knock Knock, Who's There, Boo, Boo Who, Don’t cry it’s only a joke.
Anyway, there was a knock knock joke on Dora the Explorer and then Angel decided to tell me a joke. Here it was:
Knock Knock
Who's There?
Orange
Orange Who?
Don't cry, it’s only a joke!
And then she started cracking up laughing! It was pretty funny.
Joey goes Snowboarding Wed, Nov 22nd, 06
Today, Jenisse, Clint and Joey went snowboarding at Brighton. Jenisse and I were scared Joey would "ruin" the day by being done after an hour, but it turns out, we were exhausted well before Joey was. He still wanted to go snowboarding 5 more times when we were done. He's getting pretty good!
Clint's Birthday Tue, Sep 26th, 06
So I tried to throw Clint a surprise party but the restaurant ruined it when he arrived by asking him if he was with the "party" and by letting him see the huge table on the computer screen. On the way home Joey asked me, "Who is that baby?" I told him it was Layla, Mason and Weston's new baby sister. He then wanted to know where she came from so I told him that Mason and Weston's Mommy had her in her belly. Then he got really excited and wanted to know if the doctor made her grow legs again (if you don't know, I can't convince Joey that women don't turn into balls when they are pregnant). Lol.
Then today I got the bright idea in my head to run six miles when I haven't been working out. So when I finally got home from running to pick up the kids from daycare I was really gross as you can imagine. Angel was hugging my back and I said "Is Mommy stinky?" So Angel reached down and pulled my pants out and peeked down and said, "No mommy you're not poopy." HeHe.
Misconceptions of an almost four year old Tue, Sep 12th, 06
Joey has been funny today... He likes to tease (that's usually not funny) but he was calling Angel a baby. I then told him that she was not a baby she was a toddler. So Joey looks at me and says "Actually, Mommy, I am taller then Angel." Then on the phone with Gramma from New York she was asking me if I talked to Clint about making a holiday switch and Joey was listening. Joey then kind of freaks out and says "I don't want to see that witch". Toddler and Taller, switch and that witch... he does have two ear infections; maybe his ears are clogged, lol.
Winkle Winkle wittle starTue, Aug 29th, 06
So we are sitting at the table and in her loudest singing voice Angel belts out "Winkle Winkle Litte Star" and Joey Exclaims "WINKLE WINKLE?". They both start laughing like crazy which then turns into a song making up phase where they change all the words to "twinkle twinkle little star" into "binkle, binkle; stinkle stinkle wittle binkle...." and on and on. Silly kids!
Joey's Soccer Game Thu, Aug 24th, 06
We had the first game this last Saturday. Joey was so cute. He was in most of the game and didn't even complain about being tired. He smiled nearly the whole time; even as he ran right past the ball. It reminded me of the girls getting mad at me smiling during basketball practices when it was tiresome (way back in the day). It was nice to see him smile. The pictures are really great; just click on the August folder to check them out!
Soccer and Potty Milestones Thu, Aug 17th, 06
Joey just began soccer. His first game is Saturday at 1:15! He loved it and did a great job listening to his coach. Auntie Em, Daddy, his room-mate, Mommy and Angel were witness to his first experience.
Angel made a great leap from pee pee to poop on the potty. She is getting it so fast. She is still in pull-ups but I don't think for long, she doesn't ask to go yet but she goes when you remind her. The babysitter is constantly telling me how amazing she is with her speech as she speaks in full sentences rather than in phrases like most two year olds!
Great kids, huh?
Newport 2006Wed, Aug 16th, 06
This year our Marriot trip was at Newport in California again. Clint, Joey and Angel drove with Jenisse and Charisse in the truck to California. The trip was great and the kids love swimming every day. I just uploaded a summary of the Newport photos. (267 photos out of 2757 total taken!)
New York in June Wed, Jun 21st, 06
Well, here we are in New York visiting Gramma and Papa. It has been good times! We went to the lake by my house the first day where we collected some tadpoles and played. Then we enjoyed some time in Lake Placid and had a fun dinner. Joey got flip flops and he loves them, but of course he has to practice walking in them. On Saturday we went to Park Safari in Canada. It was really neat, I never have visited it before. They had these tunnels of plexiglass in the lions cages so you could see them up close and personal, in fact lying on top of you really. The pictures will be up soon so you can see for yourself. Aunt Kim and Uncle Chris spoiled the kids with a cute plush tiger and some fun cars that shoot across the room; this is of course in addition to Gramma giving them exactly what they want. There were a lot of fun rides for the kids, I got a little dizzy on them. Mommy is getting a little old for the ones that go around and around and around and around and around, lol. We visited a waterfall at High Falls Gorge with Gramma.
"Papa Got Caught!" I caught Papa in the act of spoiling Joey after I had said no to something, I walked in the kitchen where he was telling Joey no, you can't have these right now (as he was handing them to him). Ugh, these kids get anything they want when they are here.
We have plans to see Santa at is workshop in the North Pole, New York.
On a second note, my condolences to the Dallas fans who witnessed Miami's success last night in winning the NBA finals. The Jazz will hopefully at least be in the play-offs next year, I have lots of Mommy-Son dates planned already.
The Baby Store Mon, Jun 12th, 06
So Joey asked me while we were out today
"Hey Mom, is there a baby store around here or something?"
SO... I asked him why he wanted to go to a baby store.
"So I can see some babies, real ones, like Angel." Says Joey.
I replied, "Joey, babies don't come from stores, they come from Mommys' bellies."
Joey says, "remember that time when you were a ball and we popped out of your tummy?"
"Mmm, hmm" I said.
"You were a ball and you had no legs, huh Mom?"
"Yes I had legs, Joey"
"No Mommy, you were a ball, you didn't have any legs! Mommy, I really want a baby brother, do you have a baby in your tummy?"
"No Joey, I don't have a baby in my tummy."
Then we got to Carl's Jr. and the conversation ended. Funny, huh?
Coming HomeSun, Jun 11th, 06
Life has been exciting lately, Joey and Angel just got back from a weekend with Daddy. They went with him and two friends to a carnival and then to a pool. They had a good time and woke up from their naps today wanting more of Daddy. The night ended with a bike ride, an episode of Dora, books then bed. In three days we leave for a vaction in New York with Gramma, Papa, Aunt Trish and Uncle Chris. We are all very excited!
Happy Birthday Auntie Em! Sat, Jun 10th, 06
Emily's Birthday was today so we went to Park City for a nice dinner, good times.
Friendship Thu, Jun 8th, 06
Tonight we went outside and met some of the neighborhood kids. Joey had a blast. He had his motorized four-wheeler and his bike to play with. He would go up to the other kids and ask them if they wanted a turn. Joey is getting really fast on his bike and he loves to play with other kids. He also loves to throw some mad fits when play time is over but usually a promise to play tomorrow at least calms him down enough to come home with us, though his shoulders will slump and he will walk like he is being dragged home. Life is tough when you are three, lol.
Peej Tue, Jun 6th, 06
Today Angel and Joey went with Debi (the daycare provider) to the park. While there little Angel followed her big brother up the slide but at the top she decided that she wasn't ready to go down so she yelled down to Debi "five minutes!" So after waiting a couple minutes Debi told Angel it was her turn again and Angel, still nervous says "five more minutes". Cute little thing!
Moving Again Sun, Jun 4th, 06
Well the kids and I have made yet another move! We are back in Joey's favorite place Eagle Mountain. Joey got some new bunk beds and he loves sleeping on the "up bed" and does not want to sleep on the "down bed". The new place is a town home with a lot of space, a small backyard and a neighborhood much like you see on those funny commercials where all the houses look the same and everyone leaves at the same time :-). There are so many kids here, Joey can't wait until he can play with them.
Memorial Day Mon, May 29th, 06
We took the kids to the Museum of Ancient Life at Thanksgiving Point (AKA The Dinosaur Museum). Joey loves the place and knows the place like the back of his hand so he is just go, go, go... he is very independent, wants to do it all himself. He showed Scott where everything was. Angel on the other hand was just taking her time. She loved the star tunnel, which is dark. She ooohed and awwwed inside. She kept telling us "Stop! I'll be right back" then we would take a few steps and she would say "Stop, I'll be right back!" again. She is very strong minded.
The Animal Farm Sat, May 27th, 06
The Animal Farm is yet another great feature of Thanksgiving Point. Clint and I met up and took the kids to the farm. They had two very young animals, a goat and a lamb tied to a tree where the kids could just walk up and pet them. Angel just loved these babies. She kept hugging the goat and petting it. Then of course we went on the traditional pony rides, twice. Angel and Joey both enjoy and hold on themselves. Summer looks like it will be a lot of fun, full of new experiences and excitement.
Congratulations Dr. Coonrod! Fri, May 12th, 06
We are so proud of Auntie Em, who just finished her PhD at the University of Utah! What an amazing woman!
Salt Lake Bees Fri, May 5th, 06
We went to our first minor league Baseball game. The kids had a great time. Joey really liked the mascot, the big bee. He wasn't afraid to hug him or talk to him. The game went on for a long time so we did some walking and shopping. The kids got some mini baseball and then the game ended with fireworks. Angel was so tired by the end that she passed out and the incredibly loud bangs from the fireworks didn't even stir her. I don't remember ever seeing her so tired. I could move her around and touch her and I got no response at all. Since then Joey likes to run around with his baseball glove and his batting gloves all the time. He still likes Basketball better though. He asks all the time when we are going to go to the Jazz games again, and the other day he told me, "Mom I really miss that Carlos Boozer, I really miss that guy."
Thanksgiving Gardens Fri, Apr 21st, 06
Today we ran around Thanksgiving gardens with Joey and Angel for a while. It was fun. Angel is very motherly and she found a statue of a baby animal that she refused to leave. She would try to walk away but then she would run back to it and pet it and talk to it in a soothing voice saying who knows what, lol. Joey is very active, he just wanted to go. It was during the Tulip Festival so there were gorgeous tulips everywhere. If you haven't been to the gardens, you should know they are huge and they have a really nice discovery garden for kids where they do presentations, they have a maze, Koi fish ponds and really cute displays.
Behind on the Blog....Thu, Apr 20th, 06
Let's see, so much has been happening lately that I have neglected this blog. Joey and Angel spent Easter with Daddy and his family. They have had quite a few adventures: meeting the Easter Bunny, Easter egg hunting and four-wheeling in Southern Utah. Daddy apparently got quite a bit of air on some of his CRAZY stunts :-) Then he fell and hurt himself pretty badly. He is limping around just going through the healing process.
Meanwhile Mommy has been hiking with a friend from NY down in Zions and Bryce Canyon. It was amazing. The first day was like upper seventies and we both got sunburns and the next day it was in the thirties and snowing.
More exciting news THE JAZZ WON their last game of the season last night. Ostertag retired and CJ Miles played a great game (he is a 19 year old kid who hasn't got much playing time this season, but I attribute his good game to the luck of getting his picture taken with me, lol) I also got a picture with Williams who is my favorite player on the Jazz. It will be in my classroom next year as part of the Jazz theme.
Finally the last bit of exciting news... I have decided that staying in Utah is what is best for both myself and the kids right now. I just won a bid on a town home in Eagle Mountain and hopefully, I will be able to close sometime in the middle of May. It is three bedroom 2 and 1/2 bath. It is in a great little neighbor hood with lots of kids to play with and a really nice little playground. I took the kids to see it today with Clint and they all loved it. Joey was so excited and even Angel kept saying "look Mommy", "Come on Daddy".
I hope everyone had a great Easter and please know even if you don't hear from us often, we still love you all and care very much for you. Life gets busy, but you are still in our thoughts.
Pee Pee in the Potty! Tue, Mar 28th, 06
Tonight Angel told me she had to go potty, which she has done before, so I helped her get her pants and diaper off and had her sit on the potty. Usually she likes to get right off the second she sits down but not tonight! Tonight was the night SHE TOOK HER VERY FIRST PEE PEE IN THE POTTY! Congratulations to Angel, let the potty training begin!
Jazz vs. Suns Tue, Mar 21st, 06
Joey and Mommy went to the Jazz game and had an incredible time. The games usually start at 7 but this one was on TNT so they started it at 8:30. I didn't realize this as we pulled up to the Delta Center a little before 6:30. We had only one seat but it was close, Section 2 row 5. We started watching the players warm up and got a couple autographs. Then Joey got his picture taken with a couple gorgeous Jazz dancers. During the National Anthem Joey stood up straight and tall and held his hand on his heart while staring at the flag the whole time; it was so sweet. A photographer took advantage of it and snapped a bunch of pics. Though I don't know how I will ever get a copy. The game was really fun and finally this time I got the Bear's attention. Joey has wanted to meet him really badly. I mean, we have waited like 45 minutes after a game to try and see him! Anyway, so he came up to see him and Joey wouldn't look at him, he kind of cried and held on to me like his life depended on it. The audience around us roared. It was cute. He told me that he doesn't like the Bear on the stairs, and that he likes him over there (pointing to the court). Then the threw out balls and Joey sat on my shoulder and after being flashed on the screen he got one (thanks to the person sitting next to us, who retrieved it). Then of course the Jazz came through with a win against the Suns who were picked to win..... the night ended with streamers, confetti and candy. It was a lot of fun. I will get those photos up soon too!
Disney on Ice - Finding Nemo Sun, Mar 19th, 06
We took the kids to Disney on ice and had a great time. The kids really enjoyed themselves. Pictures will be up soon.
Boondocks Fri, Mar 17th, 06
Joey, Daddy, and Jenisse went to Boondocks on St. Patrick’s day. We got an All Access pass so we were able to do everything as many times as we wanted. We went on the racecars multiple times, went rock climbing, played in the bumper boats and got wet, played miniature golf, played laser tag, played in the jungle gym, and played video games. It was fun.
Amazing Kids Wed, Feb 1st, 06
Today on the way home from Debi's Joey and I started talking about the basketball game. He associates everything at the Delta center with the circus so he was saying "hey do you remember that basketball game at the circus...." then he said "do you remember when we saw that bear there?" then he said "hey, that rhymed." I was so impressed with Joey. He is getting so smart! Angel surprises me every day with what she says. Debi was saying that all the kids have their own color cup and Angel points to them and says the name of who they belong to. She speaks mostly in one or two word phrases but she is forming sentences more and more. "I'm done, I want up please" is a major one. At night she tells me "I want Joey, no night night, go that way. That way, that way!" She is very bossy, a Type A personality for sure. She loves to sing songs but there are times when I try to sing with her and she gets really mad and says "No Mommy No". Her major obsession is with babies. She does really cute motherly things, like gets pillows for them and covers them with blankets and tells us "shhh". She also likes me to sing our good-night song first to her then to her baby. She will stroke the baby's head and face at night time, just like I do to her. Joey is starting to figure out computer and video games now. He knows what some of the buttons do and he likes to be the one to do things. He is so good with remembering to go potty. He and I are working on learning one to one correspondence in reading so he is reading level one (A) with me. They are like the most predictable easy books, but he is doing well. He tries to point to each word and once he can do that he will be ready to take off. I think bed time is our most special time with both kids, we read together, sing and talk (often even fall asleep)together. We hope everyone is doing well and having a great year.
Spurs and the Jazz Tue, Jan 31st, 06
Last night I took Joey to his first basketball game. It was a dilemma for me deciding which team to cheer on, San Antonio was always my favorite, but I haven't watched in years so I felt like maybe I should give my loyalties to the Jazz since I live here. It ended up working out well. I took the Spurs and Joey took the Jazz. Joey did pretty good at supporting the team. He learned how to say "Go Jazz Go" and "Defense" at the right times. When we first got there we watched the players warming up. While we were watching Tim Duncan was shooting some foul shots. I started explaining to Joey that if a player from the other team runs into someone or elbows or grabs that the guy would get to take a shot. Joey replied "Then they will be dead?" It took me a minute to process what he said then I had to explain that a shot is what we call it when they throw the ball in the hoop, not like a gun shoot. Then a nice clown made Joey a big balloon hat. We had a great time even though we were in the nose-bleed section, and I mean picture the very last row at the very highest level and that was literally us. Joey loved the Jazz Bear.... Loved him. At half time we searched all over for him but didn't find him. Then after the game we went down and a nice lady who had some connections tried to get him for Joey, but he had already left. Joey was a little sad for a minute, but then he started talking about the bear going home. We got to the car and he told me he was tired like the Bear but that he wanted to watch TV when we got home. We got about three miles from the Delta Center and he was out.
Peek a Boo Sun, Jan 29th, 06
Joey and Angel love to hide. They sit together on the Papasan chair and repeatedly peek in and out of the Americana Quilt that Gramma made. As I call out “Where can Joey and Angel be” Joey pops his head out laughing. Seconds Later Angel pops here head out and lets out an elated scream while shaking her head back and forth like a dog shaking off water. Then inevitably, it begins to get too wild and the fun ends with Angel wanting the blanket to herself and Joey wiggling uncontrollably, arms flailing and knocking Angel in the face.
The calm after the storm only lasts until they find the toy they both want. I am forced to separated them, yet again, and redirect whichever one is the culprit in trying to toy-snatch from the other.
Christmas in New YorkFri, Jan 13th, 06
Well as usual my entry isn't timely but here it is anyway. We had a great time in New York. The kids were spoiled rotten by my family. I mean, my parents will crawl around on their knees with them all day, I can't even do that. The snowman was lots of fun for Joey, he loved being outside. My parents also took him sledding which he loved also. When they first got there he went just a few feet up the hill (he was a little nervous). In no time at all he was going down the entire hill by himself. Towards the end he told Gramma and Papa that he was to tired to walk up the hill and asked them to carry him. I got to see a lot of old friends but mostly we hung around and played with Christmas presents and family. Angel loved the dogs. She would say "HI Puppies" everytime they came over. We can't wait to go again, Joey has asked me about a million times if we could go back to New York. Hopefully this summer sometime. Hope everyone had a Great Christmas too!
Looking Back Wed, Dec 14th, 05
Ididn't want to forget this cause it was cute. On the day of baby Joshua's blessing Angel wore a wine colored fancy dress. They were over at the Newman's. Apparently, when Joey saw her he exclaimed "Angel you look gorgeous." What a sweet brother.
Every morning lately Joey has been a sleepy head, not wanting to get up and when he does he is grumpy at first and just wants me. Well, Angel is not the same way. She always wakes up happy and sweet. So when she sees Joey she always gets excited and says "Hi Joey" and runs over to hug him. It is so cute even though grumpy boy usually gets mad at her for it.
Angel is at a wonderful stage where she is really becoming verbal. Everyday she is saying new things but my favorite (and even Joey laughs at this) is when she sings Jingle Bells. She doesn't know all the words so she is quiet until ALL THE WAY. She belts that out and mumbles oh what fun it is to ride. It is so funny. Hope you all are having a wonderful Holiday Season!
Christmas Festivities Sat, Dec 10th, 05
We have had some fun times lately. We got to have a little Christmas with the Decker/Newman side of the family and it was really nice. We met new baby Joshua for the first time. Joey finally got to see Lena, which is a big deal because he talks about her all the time. They were really cute together; hugging and running around. We wish we were closer.
Joey and Angel also recently got to see Santa when he visited the mall. Angel would not have any of it. No old man in a red suit was going to hold her. Joey on the other hand is very social with Santa. He has been telling me for sometime now that he wants bubbles and a watch from Santa. I don't know where it came from but it is definitely a realistic wish.
Today we went to the Utah Air National Guard Christmas Party. We made some ornaments, ate lunch and saw Santa. I was sitting at the table with Angel and Joey when Santa came in. Joey got so excited. I told him he could walk up close to Santa, but to him apparently that meant bust in front of the line and jump up on Santa's lap. So I turned around just in time to see him up there. He got a car and a candy cane from Santa. It was really nice.
Disney On Ice Mon, Nov 14th, 05
Joey and mommy had a date together at Disney On Ice on Thursday night. We had a wonderful time. We saw Jungle Book, Lion King, and Tarzan characters along with Mickey and Friends. Joey loved it. It was pretty late but he still danced and sang. We definitely needed some one on one time and I really enjoyed it. We got 4th row seats, but there was only one row in front of us; so really it was second row seats. It made a big difference being up close.
Halloween Night Fri, Nov 4th, 05
So, I called Clint so we could go trick or treating with him and the kids. We met at GG's house and saw cousins and Aunt Jenisse, GG, Grandpa, and Daddy of course. The kids didn't even recognize their dad at first and Angel was scared, clutching on to me. Once he took off his hat thought, they ran to him. It's not too often you see a grown man dressed in a toddler's PINK unicorn costume. We went to a few houses, got plenty of candy then we stopped at Aunt Karen's to say Hi. During the trick-or-treating Angel would say peas and tanks while Joey did the knocking and said Trick-or-Treat. It was very cute, though they were both frightened a few times. One neighbor tricked us by laying a bowl out what looked like a coffin, he covered himself in leaves and when we went to grab a candy he jumped up. It got us. On the way home we got sandwiches at Subway and Angel expanded her vocabulary to add "No MORE BITES" (while shaking her finger at me). We had a good Halloween.
So my Halloween day at school was busy... The kids were super excited and they basically partied all day. Our class led the way so I had them all grab a spot on a string so we would stay together and off we went. Apparently we were fast, I guess it was the fast parade they ever had. It was good though cause it gave us a small amount of time for some activities and pictures. The kids were cute and the parents pretty much took care of the afternoon. I have a great room-mom who planned all the activities. I was tired at the end of the day, but I was glad we went trick-or-treating anyway.
Happy Halloween Sun, Oct 30th, 05
Last night the Army and Air Guard had a "Trunk or Treat" Halloween Party. Joey, Angel and Mommy had a great time. They gave us free food, lots of candy and we even walked in a Halloween Parade. Jody was kind enough to lend us some of her kids' old costumes. Angel was a bumblebee, and was very cute; other then the fact that people kept calling her a boy. Joey was a snake. Joey was excited to see that the other two kids who attend daycare with him were also at the party. Now I have a new job of protecting the candy; Joey has already pulled up a chair to the counter to steal candy. I caught him just in time. Angel is much better about candy, she can do without it and doesn't even finish it most of the time, but Joey can pack it in. I am hoping I will be able to figure out a way to get Joey to my school to see the Halloween Parade on Monday. The entire day is partying. The kids earn a citizenship activity every quarter which they are getting during their track time. Then we have the parade and the party after lunch. Mondays are early out days for the kids because the teachers have meetings so basically the day includes only management from me. Hopefully I will have the energy to take the kids trick or treating on Monday night... that remains to be seen.
The Halloween Heber Creeper Mon, Oct 17th, 05
Mommy, Joey and Angel joined our friends; Jody, Sean and their children: Matthew, Mindy and Madison on a train ride on Saturday night. It was a half hour ride that went through part of Provo Canyon. Joey spent the first ten minutes of the train ride yelling good-bye off the side of the train to Daddy, then to the grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. Angel stood on the seat and enjoyed the ride nearly the whole time. Joey spent the rest of the train ride attached to Mindy's side. She took good care of him. This was a Halloween train ride so it was meant to make you jump a little. They told ghost stories and had displays on the side of the river to go with them. Then some of the "ghosts" got on the train and ran around trying to scare people. There were two that looked like monkeys that I was really worried about. Joey has been upset a few times at the Mayan because he doesn't like the person in the monkey costume. Anyway, Mindy and Matthew must've had the magic touch cause he wasn't even scared. Since the train ride he has asked me more then ten times if we were going to ride the train with Matthew and Mindy again....
Can't go wrong with trains or airplanes when it comes to Joey...
Angel has become a little "Linus" from Charlie Brown. She chooses a sweater or blanket and wants to drag it around all day. She doesn't have a particular preference, but man if you try to take her blanket away you better have your ear plugs and a mat for her so she doesn't hurt herself. Yesterday, Joey Angel and I got back from a jog and I was unloading the car so I let them play out in the front of the apartment. They were pulling leaves off one of the trees and then walking around the trunk of another tree. I turned my back for just a second and didn't they start picking up the dirt from around the tree and poured it all over themselves. I had just bathed them and dressed them cute a few hours before so you can imagine how excited I was to find Angel's light brown pony-tails full of dark brown soil. I had to strip them in the doorway before they could even venture into out apartment. Moral of the story, don't turn your back on the children.
I haven't written much lately so I need to mention one more thing... you would not believe how much a one year old and a three year old can fight. I find myself constantly breaking up battles and confrontations. If we are running and Joey wiggles and accidentally touches Angel, it's a freak out session. If Joey gets juice, Angel wants it. If Angel has a toy, Joey takes it. If Joey says he wants a toy or that something is his and it happens to be near Angel, she will pick it up and hold it close to her with a scowl that clearly states that "there's not stinking way your getting this".
The Circus Wed, Oct 12th, 05
We went to the circus recently; it was my first time as well as Joey's and Angel's at the circus (at least the first time I can remember). It was fun but it would definitely have been worth it to get closer seats. We ate junk all night; then Angel fell asleep in my arms. It was a late show so the kids were really tired but we had a good time.
Milestones!! Sat, Sep 17th, 05
Today Joey told me he had to go poop and then he went into the bathroom, all by himself, seated himself on his throne and let it go! This is HUGE because we always have to remind him, even to go pee, but he paid attention to his body and was aware of "that feeling" and went!
On a separate note, Angel is starting to talk more and more. Today she said Please and Thank you. Yesterday it was "I want down" or more accurately "unt down" I have been trying to make a big deal about it so she continues, but then of course Joey wants that attention too so I have to make a big deal about both of them saying please and thank you.
Chuck E. Cheese Tue, Sep 13th, 05
We celebrated Joey's 3rd birthday at Chuck E. Cheese today (12th) instead of on the 15th so Grandma and Grandpa could go since they were going back to California. Joey got a lot of cool presents! (Like Spiderman pajamas, reversible batman/superman cape, toy cars, airplanes, motorcycles, and so much more!) Photos are uploaded in the September folder of Joey's party.
Onion days parade and carnival in Payson Sun, Sep 11th, 05
Joey, Angel and Daddy went to Onion days in Payson on Labor Day. Joey was hoping to see Spiderman like he did at the American Fork Parade but he wasn't there. Then we went to the carnival and went on a few rides. New photos are uploaded in the September folder. If anyone wants an original photo to print, email Clint or click the "request original" link when viewing the photo.
Boys and Breasts Mon, Aug 29th, 05
Joey lifted up his shirt the other day and said "Mommy, look at my boobs" so I, trying to be PC, told him we don't say boobs we say breasts. Then he told me to look at his breasts so I told him that we call that his chest because he is a boy. What do ya do? Kids are so funny.
Saturdays Fire Mon, Aug 29th, 05
On Saturday there was a fire in Eagle Mountain, not so far from a residential area... being the curious person that I am, I drove as close as we could to watch the fire. We watched two helicopters and one plane make trip after trip dumping water and fire retardant on the fire. Joey, Angel and I got interviewed by the news (channel 5) but we didn't get to see it (we don't get any tv stations). Anyway, while we were there a fire truck went by and I pointed it out to Joey and I told him that there were firemen inside, Joey looked at me excitedly and asked "Do they have candy?" I guess that means it's time to teach him what a fireman does because apparently they just drive in parades and pass out candy, lol.
Joeyisms Sat, Jul 30th, 05
Well, Mommy has been lazy; cute things have happened and I haven't written it down. I just hope I can remember everything. Where to start? When asked where Papa was, Joey replied: "He's at work to make food to buy money". Angel is a walking pro, getting faster everyday. Joey and Angel like to fight over things, anything one has the other wants. Angel is a fiesty one, she either screams or attacks when Joey takes things from her. She is still really cuddly; she really hugs you. Joey is rarely cuddly, when he is hurt and first thing in the morning is about it; even then he doesn't like to be held close, he would rather just sit with you and not be hugged. Angel copies Joey all the time; if he screams then she screams. Speaking of screaming.... The other day Joey ran into his room to get something and when he ran back around the corner he screamed a terrified scream; Angel had followed him and he didn't expect her, so when he ran around the corner she scared him. This ended up in a game of pretend scaring between Angel and Joey. It is really nice when they laugh together. With all our traveling, potty training has taken a few steps backwards... but hopefully as his schedule gets more routine it will pick back up. This summer, following Mississippi we drove across the country to home, completely forfeiting the Fourth of July. When we got home Clint took the kids swimming a few times and to a parade. Only five days later I took the kids to NY where Gramma and
Papa proceeded to spoil them rotten, between Park Safari, Santa's workshop, swimming and playdate, they never had a day where they weren't busy. I actually came home and left the kids there so I could sign my contract and get moving on my classroom. After less then two weeks, when I saw the kids again they seemed so different; more mature. The flight home was long, 3 stops and all required getting off the plane. Anyway our beautiful children are growing, learning, traveling and lovin life.
Joey and Angel Wed, Jun 15th, 05
Joey is really testing authority lately. It has been interesting. He is also getting so cute and understanding things so much more. He has not been having accidents at all during the day and has been doing lots of artwork. He really has enjoyed the CDC and also he has enjoyed my classmates and their children. Angel is really getting good at walking. She can walk across the room if she doesn't get too excited. If she gets excited she runs and falls forward. The kids both love being outside. If I even open the door the kids are high-tailing outside. Then I have to round them up and bring them in. We don't have much longer til we come home. We should be home by July 9th I am thinking. Hope all is well with everyone.
Sea life Galore Sun, May 22nd, 05
We went to the aquarium in New Orleans with Uncle Chris yesterday before we took him to the airport. It was really neat, not to mention indoors and air conditioned. Joey cried when Chris got out to go to his plane. He will miss Uncle Chris.
New Orleans Fri, May 20th, 05
Today was a fun day. We have to take Chris to the airport tomorrow so we came down a day early to do some fun stuff. We went to the zoo and tomorrow will be going to the aquarium before we go to the airport. I was hoping it would be fun for Chris, cause he has been bored stiff all week, but I think the heat made it hard for him. He definitely won't be living in the South anytime soon. It was a really nice zoo though. Joey got to touch an elephant, some goats, some sheep, a snake, some kind of animal baby that was cute, but native to here, but I can remember what is was called. Angel liked it too; especially the aviaries. We miss you all.
First day of school Mon, May 16th, 05
Today was the first day of school for me. What a wake up call for the kids. They now have to get up a little before 5:00 am everyday. I think that their sleep schedule will soon change to much earlier bedtimes! I stopped by to visit them during lunch and both were sleeping peacefully. The center is amazing. The best I have seen. We have every other Friday off, this Friday is the first one so be looking for pictures from our trip to New Orleans. We will be going to the zoo and on a ferry then the next day we will say good-bye to uncle Chris who has been helping us and spending time with us for THREE weeks. I am sure he is missing Kim a lot (his girl-friend). We will miss him though. Angel actually is letting him hold her even when I am in the room. If you know Angel, that is a big thing. Oh, Angel pulls herself up now and she is getting better at scooting around. She also learned to eat with a spoon. She is doing a great job. Joey is getting used to school. We went to the beach yesterday and boy did he love the ocean. He didn't want to get out. It was warm. He even went under a few times. He wasn't even interested in the sand. Thanks to Jenny's suggestion of the Letter Factory Video, Joey is really learning letter sounds. We got him some magnets cause there is so much to stick them to in our housing and they are also helping him learn his ABC's. Well we miss all our family and friends.
Settling Down Sat, May 14th, 05
We are finally settled into our new temporary home. It is actually very nice. It is very hot here, locals just think it is warm. We have a beach really close, a pool next door and a playground behind our apartment. Joey and Angel went to school Friday for a few hours to get a feel for it. They both liked it. The center is really nice with full surveillance and team teachers. I start class on Monday at 0600 so the kids get to go to school at 0530. I don't think they are going to appreciate it, but we'll see. Angel is really working on communicating and walking. I think walking will happen really soon.
Traveling Tue, May 10th, 05
Chris, Joey, Angel and I have been traveling across the country to get to Mississippi for my school. We stayed in Veil, Colorado the first night at a very nice Marriot Resort. It was beautiful. We swam in the pool with the kids then headed on to Kansas where we spent the second night in a Travelodge; what a downgrade. This is our third night and we made it to Arkansas. We are about 100 miles from Little Rock. This place is better then the last but nothing like Veil. Oklahoma and what I have seen of Arkansas have been beautiful. Places I could definitely see me living other then the heat. There are gorgeous rolling hills and trees everywhere. Lots of lakes and rivers that would be great to Kayak or Canoe. Kansas was very grassy, with few trees. We are excited to be done driving tonight.
Angels First Birthday Party Mon, May 2nd, 05
We went to Chuck E. Cheese to celebrate Angel's birthday with family and friends. She loved it. I thought that mainly the older kids would have fun, but Angel had a blast. She loved her cake. She had two kinds and kept going back and forth between them. She was full of smiles and it was especially fun when Daddy got up and danced the birthday dance for her. Joey was gone the whole time playing. I had to bribe him to come sing Happy Birthday. That was a big step for him. Normally he will only craw up into the slides with us, but this time he was happy to do it on his own. We did lose a shoe there, but finally it was found by Mindy. Thanks to everyone who came it was great to have you there.
The Zoo Sun, May 1st, 05
We went to the zoo with Gramma, Papa and Uncle Chris on Angel's first birthday. We had a lot of fun. You can look at the pictures in the May folder.
Graduation Fri, Apr 29th, 05
Erica graduated on April 29th from UVSC. Pictures are in the April folder. Her degree is a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education. She already has a job teaching first grade and is very excited.
Angel Talk Tue, Apr 26th, 05
The baby Peej is starting to babble a little more clearly... of course Mommy has been clear for sometime but now she says hi really well. You can tell she is saying bye and a few other things but you KNOW when she says Hi. She loves to smile and does this heavy breathing when she gets excited that is really cute. Joey was peek-a-booing Angel last night and they were both laughing so hard and so loud. It was not only cute but a very welcome experience that gave me hope for peace between siblings.
Blaine and Penny Got MARRIED! Mon, Apr 25th, 05
We had a wonderful time sharing in Blaine and Penny's wedding. Other then Angel's black eye, bestowed upon her by her loving brother Joey, all the pictures are beautiful. We are excited to get to know Penny better. Joey already talks about her a lot. He told me he loved her out of the blue and always asks to go to their house.
We Have Been Busy Mon, Apr 25th, 05
Joey went with Daddy and Aunt Jenisse to Springville to visit Grampa. Joey rode on a four-wheeler and a back-hoe. He apparently likes to floor it on the four-wheeler. Clint said that everytime he let Joey go by himself that he would end up having to chase Joey and Jump on the back. Luckily mommy wasn't there; she probably would've had a heart-attack.
Farm Country Wed, Apr 6th, 05
It has been wonderful to spend quality time with the kids. Thanksgiving point is free for us right now with my military ID and since the kids are two and under. It is very nice. We had so much fun. At lunch Angel had her first bite of a chocolate chip cookie. She has her mama's sweet tooth cause she wouldn't eat anything else and would screech if she ran out of bites. It was a beautiful warm day, flowers were in bloom and the animals were active and friendly. Aren't we spoiled?
Dinosaur Museum Tue, Apr 5th, 05
Today Joey, Angel and I went to the dinosaur museum at Thanksgiving Point. We had a lot of fun. Joey didn't want to leave. You can check out the fun photos in the April folder!
Crawling Mon, Apr 4th, 05
We just wanted to make an announcement that finally, as of the last few days, Angel is officially crawling. She came across the room to me. Before she would take about four scoots then lay on her tummy. She is a very happy and cuddly baby. Joey is so fun to talk with and he is so quick to pick up on things. He is also whines a lot. I mean a lot. I think it is getting better. He is lucky he is so dang cute! Clint and I are really enjoying parenthood and even marriage. It has been so nice lately. We have seen a little more of daddy... we went to the park together the other day, on my birthday (Mar 29th) we got to have dinner and a movie and of course Sunday is our family day. I do need to mention that my birthday was a fun day, Clint made a cake. Joey wouldn't eat it, he just liked dipping his finger in the icing, but I splurged and let Angel eat some and she could not get enough! I got pretty spoiled on my birthday.
Cooking Top Ramen Sun, Apr 3rd, 05
Today Joey was asking Daddy if he could make him Top Ramen. Dad was busy on the phone, so Joey decided to cook it himself. He went into his room and put the Top Ramen in his play kitchen microwave, closed the door, hit the buttons, then it was done! It was pretty funny, I guess Joey is learning if his parents are too busy to help him, he can just do it him self!
easter Sunday Sun, Mar 27th, 05
This morning our neighbor had her own little easter egg hunt, and Joey was the only one there. The mom bought like $50 worth of Dollar store gifts, Joey took about 1/2 of them, along with finding about 150 hidden eggs. Photos are in the March folder.
Easter Egg Hunt Sat, Mar 26th, 05
We went to the Eagle Mountain Easter Egg Hunt in the ranches. There were so many people, I couldn't believe it. Joey got 5 eggs, they were just in a field with kids all around. We forgot the camera though. Well Happy Easter everyone. We are going to have another hunt in the morning, after we see what the Easter Bunny brought. The hunt tomorrow was organized by a little neighbor girl who is in thrid grade. I don't know that many more people then us will come, since it is church day, but she's really been cute about it. She has been hanging out a lot at our house and playing with the kids. After her hunt we are going to have Easter dinner at Great Gramma and Grampa Newman's house; with them, Gramma Charisse, Jenisse and us.
Being the stinkers we are, we already opened some Easter Gifts from Gramma and Papa Sherry. The kids have already been playing with them. Thanks Gramma and Papa!
Joey Sun, Mar 20th, 05
Another couple cute things to mention.... Joey loves going to the doctor, he even asked for a shot on Friday night. He thought if they gave him a shot he would get a lolli-pop. He associates the doctor with lolli-pops. When-ever I put lotion on him or give him a breathing treatment he say "Thank you for making me feel better". If I cough or sneeze he says "Bless you, Mommy". Today Daddy helped him with something and he said "what a nice daddy". Oh, and I can't forget to mention, about a month ago he learned how the mouse really worked and now he is great with the computer. He loves to play on the computer and lately he particularly likes the art programs where he can draw and paint. He really likes candy, he got into some and he already had two lolli-pops, one in each hand, licking them back and forth before Clint caught him. His most favorite candy is the chocolate moose lolli-pops from NY. He only stays in the bath for a long time if Angel is with him. He is really getting close with her. The other day when I picked them up at the day-care, Joey ran into Angel's class and said to her, "Angel, it's me, it's Joey" and he gave her a hug.
Update Sat, Mar 19th, 05
Our family has been so busy lately that we have really been neglecting to do much with the website. Erica, or Mrs. Decker to her students, has just finished teaching her class that she has been with all semester. She fell in love with her class, the first grade team and the school. She hopes to teach there next year. On her last day the kids gave her so many sweet gifts and wrote really cute letters and books to say good-bye. It was a great experience for her. Clint has been very busy at his store, it is a very cute place with snazzy furniture. You can go to www.smoothsellin.com to see what it's all about. Joey is a talker, thought apparently we, his parents, understand him way better then everyone else. Joey is getting so big and he is so sweet. Angel is really changing, she is crawling backwards. She went from the 100 percentile in weight to the 80th percentile and just this week got to the 50th percentile. Joey and Angel are both very sick right now with RSV which make breathing a task for them. It is so hard to see them so sick, hopefully we will be through this soon. Erica is going with the kids for two months to Mississippi for military training this summer. She will be over Education and Training in her unit which is a non-deployable position; giving some peace of mind to her family, while still allowing her to serve the country. We are really excited about some upcoming events like the marriages of Blaine to Penny and Jess to Vegas. Grandma Kathy will have her mystery age birthday on the 23rd. Mom and Dad's Anniversary is the 26th. Erica will be the big 28 in 10 days and Angel will be the big 1 on May first. Uncle Chris and Papa will have thier day on April 11th. AND By the way, her (Angel's) record for standing without help or touching anything is now 15 seconds! Amazing how they grow. OH, and we just found out we are getting a new niece or nephew from the Robinson's, so CONGRATULATIONS!!!
a little anecdote.... whenever Joey is upside down he says he is "up and down" and he "lubs" us instead of loves us. Cute, cute, cute.
Funny Misinterpretation Sun, Feb 6th, 05
Clint and Joey went outside to hit a baseball with a bat. Joey and Mommy had done this the day before and Joey actually hit the first ball I threw at him. Then he missed a few and hit a few at only two years old. So he wanted to show Daddy. After more misses then hits with Daddy, Clint told him "When I throw the ball you swing." So when Daddy threw the ball Joey threw the bat on the ground and ran over to the swing.
MERRY CHRISTMAS Sat, Dec 25th, 04
We wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. We had a great Christmas. Thank you to everyone who spoiled us over the holidays. Joey is just having the best time with opening presents. He is almost obsessed with presents. He got a new kitchen from Santa and loves to make us dinner and drink real water out of his play cups. He keeps trying to sneak real food like raisens and cookies into the his play kitchen. He has been saying the cutest things as he continues to experiment with language. He loves the movie Finding Nemo and for some reason really likes when Nemo touches the boat. The other fish say he touched the butt so now Joey jokes that he is going to touch the butt. He does not know that butt also refers to a part of the body. Angel got some really fun learning toys. More then anything she seems to like the wrapping paper and tags. She really has enjoyed some maraccas that Joey got for Christmas. Angel is growing up so fast. She is sitting like a pro. She rolls but still doesn't crawl (that is probably our fault cause we don't put her on her stomach enough). Clint got some PJ's with feet in them which he wore all day on Christmas. He matched baby Bennet, our nephew, though baby Bennet's PJ's were probably the more mature looking of the two. Christmas pictures are now uploaded in the December folder so check them out.
Moab Mon, Nov 1st, 04
Yesterday ended our UEA weekend fun. We had a family reunion on the Newman side of the family in Moab, UT. We love the red rocks and the gorgeous formations. Joey had a wonderful time playing with all the cousins. The kids ran the halls of the hotel like a mini heard of elephants. I am sure the other guests loved us :-). For Halloween we had a dutch oven picnic and party in the park in Moab. Joey kept trying to sneak off to the playgroud until the halloween actvities began. There was a pinata and the balloon game in particular seemed to be Joey's favorite. Our family dressed as a herd of cows. We all took some great pictures so check them out!
The Trip Home Sat, Jul 10th, 04
Southwest airlines is so great because we usually have an extra seat for a kid. This time was different. The plane from NY to Vegas was full. Only four oxygen masks come down so with three adults in our row and the two kids there wouldn't be enough masks. so they had to split up our family. Clint had to sit inbetween two unfriendly ladies traveling together who would not let him have the window or isle. So I was on the window seat behind Clint who was in the middle. The kids were a bit cranky. So we were trading periodically. The ladies around Clint were constantly rolling thier eyes and acting irritated. it was not a fun flight at all. I guess it is the last time Joey is free so we won't have that problem again. From Vegas to Utah is was much nicer. We had that extra seat and Joey slept as did Angel. Phew, it was nice to finally get home.
The Fourth of July Sun, Jul 4th, 04
We went to the "big" town of Jay parade. It was a lot of fun for Joey. I think Clint liked it too because every vehicle threw candy. Joey came home with a ton of candy, of course he didn't eat it... Daddy took care of that for him. That was it for the fourth. We were too tired and unmotivated to go to fireworks so late with the kids.
Graduation Party Sun, Jun 27th, 04
Joey had a great time at Chris's graduation party. He played with Claudine's little girl Jacki. They were cute like those kids on the cards. Quite a few people were there, including some of the Sherry family that I haven't seen in years and that Clint and the babies met for the first time. This included My Aunt Becky, cousin Maggie and My Gramma. My mom made delicious quiche, lasagna and cantalonie. My Aunt cooked fabulous london broil which Clint loved.
Angel Sat, Jun 26th, 04
Aunt Tricia got Angel the cutest little dress, which she is wearing in this picture. Angel got really good at smiling while we in New York. She started smiling a little before we left but when we were there she smiled all the time.
Graduation Fri, Jun 25th, 04
Uncle Chris graduated from high-school and we got to be there. We sat in some bleachers which were difficult to get out of; Angel decided she wanted everyone to know she was there. She let the first three speakers get through half their speeches then she wailed. I am not sure if anyone heard much of the ends of the speeches. Finally I decided to take her out, disrupting about twenty people on our way down. When Angel and I finally got down and everyone settled into their seats again, Joey started screaming for Mommy so Clint followed with Joey. The rest of the evening went well. Chris graduated with honors as President of the National Honor Society and received some scholarships to help him with his tuition at Clarkson University where he will be going into the Chemical Engineering Program.
Pony Express Days Sat, Jun 12th, 04
Our small town has a little celebration called Pony Express Days. They had a cute little parade and carnival. We had a lot of fun. Joey got to ride ponies and go on some fun slides. He also got a flower and apron from home depot. Clint won a drawing from the Home Depot. He got a set of bits for his screwdriver. Joey gave out some Team Louish stickers to kids and they were wearing them on their heads and shirts. It was cute.
Madness Thu, Jun 10th, 04
Two babies is a big change from one! Clint, the sleepy head slept through a screaming baby while I was in the bathroom the other morning. When I came out, there was Joey with two of Angel's bottles from that night (each with a little formula left) and there was little Angel screaming with drops of milk all over her. Initially I was upset and took the bottles away from Joey and yelled at Clint to wake up. He was completely out of it. Then we realized how completely sweet Joey was being trying to appease Angel, too bad he was doing it with rotten milk.
Clint has been working in the garage making his little work area. Luckily he had a neighbor come over to help carry in his huge 13 foot long workbench which he was building on the front lawn. It weighed a ton when we three carried it in and he hadn't even put in the shelves yet (which he was planning on doing before he moved it in). Silly Clint.
Growing Up Thu, May 27th, 04
Angel gained a pound and a half and grew and inch and a half by her two week appointment. This is very rapid growth compared to most babies. Like Joey she is above average in height and weight. She has been a good eater! She is staying awake a little more everyday and she likes to look around. Nights aren't too bad with exception for the times she decides to stay up for an hour or so after a feeding. Joey is being a good big brother. He likes to kiss Angel and he likes to try to hold her. He looks so big now compared to her. It is amazing how much Joey is learning. He repeats whole senteces now and is really recognizing environmental print like McDonald's signs and the word Louish. He reads Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See with us (from memorization). It is so fun to see him go through the first stage of literacy. Joey's loves to go outside. He really loves to play with the Smith's kids across the street. He seems to be trying to "push our buttons" more then ever, running away when we call him and touching anything we say not to. Of course he is sweet and cute most of the time and has wonderful manners. Parenthood definitely keeps you busy but is very rewarding!
Angel Jenisse Decker Sat, May 1st, 04
Angel Jenisse Decker was born today at 10:26am at Timpanogos Regional Hospital in Orem Utah. She is 6 lbs. 13.8 oz and 19 inches long. She is perfectly healthy and Erica is doing great. The 2nd baby was MUCH easier than the first. The birth only took about 1 - 1 1/2 minutes. (1 Push). We were suposed to go in to the hospital on Friday, April 30th to be induced but they were too busy and said to come back on Monday. (So the only other way to get in would be to go into labor). So Erica drank 2oz of Castrol oil at 3pm on Friday, she started having contractions at 10pm, then we went in at 1am.
